I had the same issues, but it was stuck in speedgear for me. I usually prefer gear only.

Tried the advise to uninstall and remove any traces of it and reinstalling, but the problem was the same.
I found that removing all display modes, saving the profile and the enabling only gear and saving solved the issue.

Have not been able to test past 2 versions as I had my wheel away for fixing an issue so I don't know when the problem started.

This "problem" is still here, but most users won't notice it. I have a fix planned for a future release. The codebase is ready for some overhauls, 1.5 has some of those in already, but some require some more time and thinking
